Monsoon Running Tips: How Runners Can Keep Fit Even in the Rains

If you are not motivated enough to venture out on a rainy day, we have got some great advice to make the best of a rainy run whether it’s a preparation for an event, race or just your regular running session. So take notes.

It is that time of the year again where your fitness goals take a major back seat. Unfortunately, if you are in the middle of a training plan ahead of a big event, sometimes you can’t postpone a run because it’s raining especially if it looks like it’s going to rain for days on end. Plus there’s every chance the race itself will take place on a rainy day. So do not give up yet. If you are up for a wet and wild workout, take note of these handy tips.

Check Your Footwear

Check your shoes. If your souls are too smooth, it can be difficult for you to run without slipping. Your shoes should have grooves on the soles that are deeper than one millimeter. These will not only help your shoes get a better grip but also allow the water to run through them. To keep your feet warm, you may just want to pick a pair of socks with a waterproof fabric.

Do Not Sprint

If you are someone who sprints, do not try sprinting on a rainy day. If you are training for an event or working on a fitness goal, it is better to jump on the treadmill. Running on a slippery surface can not only put more pressure on your muscles and connective tissues but also put you at a risk for injury. Here's  how to get your body to adapt to long-distance running.

Change Your Stride

You must also modify your stride while running on a slippery road. By taking shorter and quicker strides, you can reduce the amount of time you spend on a slippery surface. When you encounter puddles, you must bend your knees about 10 degrees more to prevent your body from becoming rigid. This will also prevent hip injuries when you strain your body when you leap or turn.

Sweat In That Neon Gear

Your fancy neon tights will come handy on a drizzly day. When it rains it gets darker and thus difficult for the drivers to see you. Moreover, the slick roads make it difficult for the vehicles to quickly stop. By wearing orange, pink and neon, you will be more visible than you would be wearing reflective colours.

Seal Your Electronics

If you want to keep your phone and iPod safe in rains, look for workout gears with inside pockets that will keep your devices safe. If those pockets are not enough, you may also want to shell some extra money on a waterproof case. Here are 5 benefits of running that you should know about.

Wear Smart Layers

If you are running with shorts, it may be a good idea to pop compression shorts to prevent chafing which can become worse when your body is wet. You may also want to wear an extra layer of a jacket or a sweatshirt to keep yourself protected.
