The illness caused by the cyclospora parasite is called cyclosporiasis. It causes vomiting and ‘explosive ‘ diarrhoea a week or in many cases even a month after the consumption of the infected food. Even after McDonald’s pulled its salad blend on July 20, the number of cases kept increasing

When the news of the outbreak first came out in the month of May, it was limited to Illinois and Iowa. But now it has spread countrywide with cases reported as recently as Thursday, even after Mcdonald's made a change in its salad blend on July 20. It has already been three months since the outbreak, but the chain still hasn’t identified the ingredient causing the illness as the infections had been linked to all the four types of salad available in the menu.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that deals with regulation said on Friday that their agents are working with McDonald’s to understand the source of the infection. Agents at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which deals with the health of citizens is working toward tallying up of all the cases. The symptoms of Cyclospora infection laid down apart from watery diarrhoea is cramping, bloating, nausea, fatigue, gastric issues and low-grade fever.
