At the end of a hard day’s work, do you also out for another cup of caffeinated beverage like everybody else? It’s good for short-term bursts of energy, but what about in the long run? Depending too much on caffeine for energy can cause health problems such as anxiety, high blood pressure and insomnia.

You can also beat the post work slump by other simple means. Easy yogasanas can help you give you an energy boost without having to depend on unhealthy beverages. One such asana is Vrikshasana or the Tree Pose, which channels the grace and steadiness of trees. With the regular practice of this asana, you could do more than just feel rejuvenated. As part of our countdown to International Day of Yoga, we focus on one simple yogasana every day. Today, let’s try Vrikshasana.

How to Perform Vrikshasana

    • Stand upright with your hands on your side.
    • Lift your right leg, bend it at the knee and rest the right foot against your left inner thigh. The sole of your feet should lie flat against your thigh and your heel should touch your perineum.
    • Make sure your left leg can take your weight and you are well-balanced.
    • Once you have steadied yourself, inhale deeply, raise both your arms and join your palms above your head as if in prayer.
    • Fix your gaze straight ahead at a distant object. Keep your gaze steady to maintain balance.
    • Keep your spine straight and take long breaths.
