Tadasana or the mountain pose is a rejuvenating asana, best done in the morning.
Mountains are great wonders of nature, always steadfast and strong. Don’t you wish you too had their strength and might? With yoga, you can. Tadasana or the Mountain pose is a standing yogasana also known as Samastiti. It’s one of the basic postures, which provides foundation to many asanas. One of the benefits of the asana is that it helps the body stretch out and create more space for the internal organs. In so doing, it improves respiration, digestion and blood circulation. Performing the asana early in the morning gives you a refreshing boost to start the day. As part of International Day of Yoga 2018 countdown, let's focus today on this rejuvenating asana.
How to Perform Tadasana
Tadasana is ideally perfect for the morning hours. But you can perform it at any time of the day. Unlike other yogasanas, Tadasana need not be done on an empty stomach, although its preferable. But ensure that your bowels are clean.
- Stand with your legs slight apart (2 inches) and hands hanging by your side.
- Now, lift your hands till your shoulders. With your palsms facing each other. Interlock your fingers and bend your wrists outwards.
- Breathing deeply, lift your hands above your head. Stay in this position.
- Now raise your heels and stand on the balls of your feet. Stay in this position for 10-15 seconds. Stay still in this posture.
- Try focusing on a single point. This will help you improve your balance.
- Slowly let your breath out and come back to the standing position.

Benefits of Tadasana
Tadasana benefits patients suffering from sciatica. Regular practice of the asana also improves posture and balance, rids congestion in spinal nerves and strengthens your legs. It improves awareness, steadies breathing and increases agility of the legs.
Stretching helps in firming up the abdomen and the buttocks. It relieves tensions and stress in the body. It also creates space for the internal organs, improving respiration, digestion and blood circulation. It also refreshes the body and mind.

Don’t perform this asana if you suffer from varicose veins, headaches, insomnia, low blood pressure, heart disease and vertigo.
