Why Do Condoms Have an Expiry Date?

Like food, condoms too tend to degrade after a certain point of time. This means that there will be chances of condom breakage or failure during sexual activity. Additionally, the spermicide in the condom can lose its potency over time and the latex and the lubricant can dry out as well. Can You Use Expired Condoms in Emergency?

While it is true that using an expired condom increases the chances of STDs and unintended pregnancy, using an expired condom is better than not using one at all. If you find nothing at hand except that expired packet of condom, test it out for breakage after use by filling the condom with water and checking if anything spills out.

Bottom line- If you are to choose between using an expired condom than not using one at all, use the expired condom if you do not have access to the one which is not expired.
