Eggs are one of the most popular food items consumed around the world especially for breakfast. The unique quality of eating eggs is it can be prepared in a variety of ways like boiled, poached, scrambled, omellete, and more. But anything consumed in excess is bad for your health. An American research institute called Centre for Dynamics, Economics and Policy, have reported that the eggs in the market are contaminated. They have found traces of antibiotics in the eggs available in the market. These antibiotics are given to cocks for protecting them from various diseases. But it is said that the effects of these medicines are entering the body of the consumers which may harm their fighting ability against diseases. It weakens the immune system of human beings and may lead to antibiotic resistance.

The egg contains two parts, the yellow egg yolk and the translucent albumen also commonly known as egg white. We all have heard about the side-effects associated with egg yolks. Today we will give you a low down on the side-effects of consuming egg whites.

Side-Effects of Eating Egg Whites

Salmonella: Bacteria found in the intestines of chickens is called Salmonella. It can also be present on the inner and outer surfaces of egg shells. To avoid the risk of salmonella, it is recommended to avoid eating raw egg whites. Cook the eggs for a long period of time and at a high temperature. Symptoms of salmonella infection are stomach flu, nausea, vomiting, fever, abdominal cramps and blood in the stool.

Allergies: Some people are allergic to egg whites as well albumen proteins. Eating egg whites may trigger reactions causing symptoms such as rashes, swelling, nausea, wheezing and more. In rare cases, severe symptoms could be difficulty in breathing, drop in blood pressure, inflammation in the throat and even loss of consciousness. People allergic to egg yolks also have higher chances of being allergic to egg whites.

Depletion of Biotin: Egg whites contain high levels of avidin, a protein that binds biotin strongly. When cooked, avidin is partially depreciated and binding is reduced. Biotin is one of the B complex vitamins also known as vitamin H or vitamin B7. These group of vitamins are responsible for breaking down fat and carbs from the foods and convert them into energy. Deficiency of biotin may lead to skin conditions such as cradle cap, lack of muscle tone or co-ordination, muscle pain and cramps, seizures and hair loss. Consumption of egg whites increases the risk of biotin deficiency.

Excessive Protein: Egg whites are rich in proteins. But according to doctors, eating a high amount of protein can be dangerous if you suffer from kidney problems. Glomeruli are tiny filters in the kidneys that filter waste from the blood. People with low Glomerular filtration rate could be afflicted by acute kidney injury because of high biological value of egg protein. However, doctors recommend that 0.6 to 0.8 grams of daily intake of protein for people who suffer from an impaired renal function. So, eat no more than a couple of eggs daily. Also, people with acute liver problems should consult their doctors before including egg whites in their diet.

Egg whites are comparatively healthier than egg yolks. Egg yolks are associated with health problems such as high cholesterol, weight-gain and more. But before you include egg whites in you diet plan, it is recommended that you properly boil, fry or cook the egg whites. Also, limit your consumption of eggs.
