It’s impossible to stay at your best eating behaviour during Diwali, especially when you are tempted with sweets and savouries for five whole days. The sugar overload can do some serious damage to your overall health. Sooner or later, you see its effects in the form of weight gain, bad skin and overall sluggishness. What you need is a thorough cleansing from the inside. So if you have gone overboard this Diwali with snacks, here’s how you can do a complete detox. Nutritionist Priya Maisa from Complete Nutrition, Vashi lists down the five important steps.

Cleanse With Water

You need to take at least 12-14 glasses of water per day, immediately after your binge-fest ends. It will help flush out the toxins lodged in your system. Infusing the water with herbs like mint and citruses like lemon will make the cleanse more effective.  Beat Diwali weight gain with these tips.

Lemon-Ginger Detox

A combination of lemon and ginger is a powerful pair if it’s detox that you want. Ginger is a potent anti-inflammatory ingredient that will help reduce some the inflammation caused by your high refined food intake. Lemon, a rich source of vitamin C, tricks your body into thinking it is a digestive juice, which triggers the secretion of bile and the movement of food. By doing so, lemon juice keeps the digestive tract clean. Signs you are losing weight.

Exercise

Exercise is necessary for your overall well-being. But did you know that it’s a great detox tool and one that is not mentioned often in detox plans? When your body starts moving, the blood and lymph circulation improves, accelerating your liver’s cleansing mechanism. Exercise also increases your oxygen intake, helping you detoxify naturally.

Say NO to Sugar

After five days of continuously subjecting your body to sugar, give it a break! Sugar is an inflammatory agent, which can stress out each of your body’s systems. High levels of blood sugar can damage your blood vessels and weaken your immune system. So cut out all the sugar from your diet as you detox, preferably for life!

Sip on Green Tea

Green tea is a rich repository of antioxidants, which scavenge free radicals that cause serious ailments. The polyphenols in the beverage also support your liver, the major organ that detoxes your system. Sipping on green tea during the detox will also keep you hydrated and mildly stimulated, thanks to its caffeine content.

There you have it. In just five simple steps, you can start detoxing your system to minimise the Diwali damage. You can use these steps whenever you need a detox.
