Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Maharashta Sponsors Baby Dhanashree’s Heart Transplant By Joining Hands with Tata Trusts and Rotary Club of Mumbai

The four-year-old's father is a farmer who couldn't afford a surgery to save his daughter's life.

Mumbai, July 25th 18: The Cardiac Care team at Fortis Hospital, Mulund had successfully transplanted a donor's heart into a four-year-old girl from Jalna, Maharashtra on June 23, 2018. This became possible when the parents of a 13-year-old boy from Aurangabad consented to donate their beloved son’s organs. The boy was declared brain dead after he was rushed for treatment of injuries sustained in a road traffic accident at MGM Hospital in Aurangabad.

Daughter of farmer Krishna Mujmule, Dhanashree, was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy last year. With ejection fraction of 15 percent, she was put on the waiting list for a heart transplant in May 2018. With meagre resources, her loving father hoped to receive financial help, so his daughter could undergo the heart transplant. Responding to the call for financial aid, Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Maharashtra, Tata Trust, Rotary International District 3141 and Rotary Club of Mumbai collaborated and completely funded Dhanashree’s surgery. Shri Omprakash Shete, Chief, Chief Minister’s Relief Fund Cell, Maharashtra, Mr Shashi R Sharma, District Governor, Rotary Club of Mumbai, Mr Chokhani, Head- CSR, Rotary International and D Rajendra Agarwal, Head- PaedCard Program, Rotary CSR, Rotary Club, visited baby Dhanashree at Fortis Hospital, Mulund today.

The Rotary Club representatives handed the contributory cheque for Rs 5lac, for Dhanashree’s surgery. Dr S. Narayani, Zonal Director, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, joined by the administrative staff at the hospital, welcomed the dignitaries and visited Dhanashree and her parents.

Talking about this initiative, Dr S. Narayani, Zonal Director, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, “The act of giving by our associates and partners enabled us to conduct the transplant on baby Dhanashree; she is all set for discharge, and her doting parents are eager to take her home. We are indebted to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Maharashtra, Tata Trust and Rotary Club of Mumbai, for their contribution.”

Mr Shashi R Sharma, District Governor, Rotary Club of Mumbai, said, “Our contribution to enable Dhanashree’s surgery is another positive step towards serving the community. Dhanashree’s recovery has been exceptional and the smile on her and her parents face is our only reward; we are proud to have been associated with the hospital and with Dhanashree. With this success story, we will continue our endeavour to make a difference in people’s lives”.

Our initiative ‘Project Aasha’ does just that by providing financial aid to children with cardiac diseases, belonging to disempowered backgrounds. Aiding Dhanashree’s surgery brings us one step closer in ensuring a healthy future for the children of the state.”
