You must have measured your penis several times and checked if it is the 'ideal' six inches. But how many times did you quantify or compare your after-sex eruptions? Is the amount you are ejaculating after a hot romp session normal? Could the volume of your semen decide your potency? Or can low-volume ejaculate signal a bigger problem? Can a weak dribble signal erectile issues? We give you a low down on all the semen volume related questions.

How Much Semen Is Normal?

According to experts, semen volume can range anything from 1.5ml to 5ml. That said, even if your ejaculation doesn't quite hit the benchmark, you might be normal. However, if the volume is less than 1.5ml (less than one-third of a teaspoon), you might need further evaluation. Consult your doctor as an underlying condition could be responsible for the low volume of ejaculate.

Is Low Semen Volume Normal?

Just like the erectile function, semen volume declines with age. So if you are noticing a decrease in the amount that you are spurting, it might just be normal. The decline in the quantity of ejaculate may start in your 30s but you may not notice it until later on. However, if you suddenly notice a decrease in your ejaculate, it could be a signal that something is wrong.

When Is It Alarming?

Several other factors can be responsible for the decrease in volume. The most common one is low-testosterone volume also known as hypogonadism that can decrease your semen volume. Low testosterone can also cause erectile dysfunction, which in turn can result in low semen volume. Fatigue, weakness, concentration issues and even low sex drive are all signs of low testosterone levels. Eat these 10 foods to increase your sperm count and boost your fertility.

Diabetes can also be responsible for low semen. If your blood sugar goes out of whack for a while, it can damage your nerves and your blood vessels. Sometimes, neurological disorders like multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injuries can also cause low semen. You may also notice a decrease in your volume if you have an enlarged prostate or high blood pressure. Also, beware of antibiotics and marijuana as sometimes as it may dip semen volume.

Your Semen Volume Has Dropped, What Should You Do?

Low semen volume is something to stress about as it is indirectly related to low sex drive and that can trigger issues in your personal life. So if you notice a significant decrease in your volume of ejaculation, it can be a good idea to contact a urologist. Your doctor will recommend a few tests and also evaluate your surgical history and treat them accordingly.

Making lifestyle changes like losing weight and cutting back on alcohol can also get your volume back to normal. If diabetes is the root cause, you may be able to reverse the condition with your diet.
