Anoushka Shankar Undergoes Hysterectomy! Sitar Player Pens Empowering Note Revealing Why She No Longer Has Uterus (Read Viral Tweet)

Popular sitar player and music composer Anoushka Shankar has just penned down a prolonged but empowering note revealing that she no longer has a uterus. The 38-year-old musician had to undergo a double surgery to remove at least 13 tumours in her abdomen. Throughout the journey, she discovered that many women are experiencing a similar situation as her, and some could be worse than her. In her note, “Lady Bits,” Anoushka further urged women to talk about hysterectomy and help to increase the knowledge about the same among fellow counterparts. The iconic sitar player described how at a young age of 26, she had discovered a “fibroid the size of a large cantaloupe melon growing” in her uterus. During this time a myomectomy was done, and her uterus was preserved. Myomectomy is a surgical procedure to remove uterine fibroids. The surgery helped her in giving birth to her two children in the forthcoming years. “I learned I had multiple large fibroids again. This time we opted for hysterectomy,” she revealed in the note.

Hysterectomy is an operation to remove a woman’s uterus. Some women may experience complications after surgery. At present, Anoushka is at home and healing well. She clarified at the end of the note that her revelation is not gain any sympathy but increase concern about women’s reproductive health.
