Erectile dysfunction has become a rampant problem among men today. The problem causes a lot of embarrassment to men and puts a strain on their romantic and conjugal relationships. The treatment options for erectile dysfunction are as varied as its causes.  But a revolutionary treatment could promise a cure, but only if you are up for it (pardon the pun). A recent study says zapping the penis with mild electric currents could cure the problem. The results are ‘shocking’ to say the least. It claims that within a few weeks of the treatment, men will get their sex drive back and be able to perform normally in the bedroom.

In the study, volunteers who have erectile dysfunction were given two sessions of 15 minutes each of the electric treatment. Two tiny electrodes were placed on the subjects’ penises, and a power pack was used to generate the mild electric current. The subjects felt only a slight tingling sensation on their organs as the current passed through the tissue.

The technique, it seems, is not new to the medical world. Functional electrical stimulation, as it is called, has existed for over 40 years and have been used to treat multiple sclerosis patients who suffer from a condition known as drop foot. Patients struggle to lift their foot properly due to the nerve and muscle damage caused by the disease. The low-intensity electric currents help revive the damaged muscles and nerves that control movement.

The study hypothesises that zapping the penis with mild electric currents will trigger an increase in the levels of nitric oxide, which can dilate blood vessels and increase the flow of blood to the genitals. Men struggling with the disorder can heave a sigh of relief since the method is non-invasive and safe. The device, however, doesn't come cheap and is priced at £3,000 apiece.
