What is an ovarian cyst?

Ovaries that are located on both sides of the uterus and produce eggs and hormones-estrogen and progesterone- sometimes have a fluid-filled sac called cysts developed on them. Most of the times cysts are common and painless, however, some ovarian cysts, especially the ones that have been ruptured can cause a serious health issue. It is said that most women usually develop at least one cyst during their lifetime.

A few ovarian cysts may even show no symptoms at all and therefore it is advised to go on a time to time checkup with the gynaecologists. Nonetheless, a few symptoms of Ovarian Cyst may include:

  1. Bloating around the abdomen/swelling
  2. Pain around the pelvic area during the menstrual cycle or even before
  3. Painful intercourse
  4. Consistent pain in the lower back or thighs
  5. Nausea and vomiting

While these are the common symptoms, you must also know the symptoms of severe ovarian cyst:

  1. Severe or sharp pelvic pain
  2. Dizziness
  3. Pain along fever
  4. Breathlessness with or without pain

If you notice any of these symptoms, you must immediately visit a gynaecologist and get yourself screened. It is always better to be safe than sorry.  Cysts could become a major problem if don't given any medical attention immediately, especially if it gets bigger and doesn't go. The chances of you having cancer because of this is very less, still you must not ignore it.
