Patoli or Patholi are sweet stuffed rice rolls. The speciality of these is they are steamed and wrapped in turmeric leaves. It is a common dish during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Goa and Konkan regions of western India. The history of this dish traces back to the influence of the Saraswat Brahmin community, known for their culinary expertise and adherence to religious rituals. Patoli was traditionally made by women of the community as an integral part of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. If you have never made it before, there is no auspicious time than the ongoing festivities to try it out. 

Patoli Ingredients: 

6-7 turmeric leaves

2 cups soaked rice (overnight)

For Stuffing:

1 tbsp ghee or oil

1.5 cup grated coconut

1 cup grated jaggery or any dark jaggery

1 tsp cardamom powder
