Onam is one of the major festivals celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm by the Hindus in Kerala. The harvest festival begins the Malayalam New Year, known as Kolla Varsham. Onam is celebrated on the day of Thiruvonam nakshatram (Shravana asterism) in the Malayalam calendar month of Chingam, which falls in August or September in the Gregorian calendar. This year, Onam 2023 will be celebrated on August 29.
