As more and more people are opting for a vegan lifestyle or at least reducing their meat intake, fast food chain Kentucky's Fried Chicken (KFC) is planning to introduce a replacement. KFC which specialises in chicken burgers is working on a vegetarian menu in the UK. They plan to introduce a meatless fried chicken on their menu by 2019. Not many details about this product are available as yet but it will be interesting to see what is being churned up to replace the meat and still give it a feel of chicken.
They have said that the meatless chicken will be wrapped in their signature blend of 11 herbs and spices. According to KFC, the vegetarian chicken will have "great taste of KFC to new and existing customers who are changing their dining habits." With many people switching to vegetarian, the chain has to consider the needs of their customers. A spokesperson was quoted to SunOnline, "development of the recipe is still in its very early stages, and so the options we’re exploring in our kitchen are still top secret." So it is still unclear if it will be a vegan or just vegetarian.
The food chain will first experiment with their new replacement and it will be introduced only if it meets the desired response. So the customers will get to taste the new recipe this year. Along with the introduction of a vegetarian alternative to chicken, the food chain has also promised to cut the number of calories in its meals by 20% in the next few years. Their one Big Daddy Meal contains 1,430 calories. Under their new pledge, they will have to develop meals with under 600 calories. So a lot of your gooey cheese is going to be replaced with more salads we assume. Are you ready for some vegetarian chicken coming your way?
