This new development is a move by the online e-commerce website to raise competition in an increasingly crowded market during Diwali and other festivals.
According to a report, published in NDTV, the Seattle-based company is working with local partner Catamaran - founded by IT industrialist Narayana Murthy, and has also begun hiring staff for the new operation. The new scheme is expected to be launched from September onwards and might run for month-long. Zomato Celebrates Chandrayaan-2 Launch, Replaces Their Delivery Bike Icon With a 'Rocket'!
Though the plans had yet to be made public, Amazon is planning to capture the online food delivery sector, which research firm RedSeer Consulting confirmed rose 176 per cent in 2018. As per the reports, the online e-commerce website will complete with local start-ups Swiggy, backed by Naspers and Tencent, and Zomato.
Earlier, Uber Technologies launched its India food delivery service in 2017, however, is still trying to pace up with local market leaders. Amazon had earlier began grocery delivery which is gaining momentum in the country among the middle-class sections.
