October 5 is the day when the 1996 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers was adopted. Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher-Education Teaching Personnel was adopted in 1997this was adopted in 1997 to complement the 1966 Recommendation. It covered teaching and research personnel in higher education fields. This day discusses the challenges in the promotion of this profession. The celebration of World Teachers’ Day is co-convened in partnership with UNICEF, UNDP, the International Labour Organization, and Education International.
The World Teachers' Day is celebrated to give more understanding into the role of teachers in an individuals' development. A campaign is started each year by the UNESCO and Education International (EI). Students and non-teaching staff alike can be a part and contribute to the local community.
Theme of World Teachers' Day 2019
Each year this day is marked with a specific theme which peeks more into the field of educators.
