The Theme of World Hepatitis Day

According to the WHO, in 2017, 2,850,000 were infected with hepatitis. The number of people affected by hepatitis B and C is 325. Hepatitis is one of the most ignored diseases and the day was created to bring light on it. Eighty percent of hepatitis patients don’t get the treatment and help they need. Significance of World Hepatitis Day

World Hepatitis Day is one of eight official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO). The initial date decided for this event was May 19. It was created to raise awareness in people regarding this disease. Nine out of 10 people with hepatitis don’t diagnose it. There are five types of hepatitis; A, B, C, D, E. Hepatitis A and E are caused by contaminated food and water. Hepatitis B is sexually transmitted or can be passed from a mother to her parents. Hepatitis B and C spread through blood transfusion.

Hepatitis D only affects people with hepatitis B. Hepatitis A, B and D are preventable. The symptoms of hepatitis include yellowish eyes, poor appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea. Some people don’t experience any symptom of the disease. The host country for World Hepatitis Day 2019 is Pakistan.
