World Food Day 2018: Bollywood Songs From ‘Samose Mein Aaloo’ to ‘Bhelpuri Kha Raha Tha’ Will Make Your Stomach Growl
These were some of the songs on my favourite food items. Yes, simply in love with samosa and ice cream.
Food is bae. Food is true love. Life is over without food. We keep coming across these captions on Instagram coupled with lovely food pics. While ‘food is bae’ can be a far-fetched expression, life is definitely over without food. But as much as we love food, we also tend to take it for granted. So, here’s one day, an international day in honour of this life-sustaining resource – World Food Day. It is celebrated annually on October 16 to mark the founding of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945. On World Food Day 2018, I would like to pay my respects to Food in my own filmy way. Here’s a list of Bollywood Hindi songs on tasty delicacies with hilarious funny lyrics to brighten up your day. World Food Day 2018 Quotes: These Famous Sayings Will Give You Food For Thought to Eradicate Hunger.
Jab Tak Rahega Samose Mein Aaloo
If a 90s kid born in an Indian household claims to not remember this Akshay Kumar song, he or she is one big LIAR. We all have sung its cringe-worthy lyrics at least once in our lives for sure. “Jab Tak Rahega Samose Mein Aaloo Tera Rahunga O Meri Shalu” from 1997 film Mr & Mrs Khiladi has Akshay wooing Juhi Chawla with this amazinnnnn song. We don’t know how this song helps in love and romantic matters, but every time I hear it, I crave a fried, crunchy, spicy samosa!
Main Toh Raste Se Ja Raha Tha, Main Toh Bhelpuri Kha Raha Tha
Bhelpuri, one of the most-loved Indian street food is loved by all. It could be spicy, sweet, tangy, minty, you name it, and your bhelpuriwala bhaiyaa will whip it up for you. There is so much love for this type of chaat that we even have a Bollywood song for it. Remember (don’t act, of course, you remember) Govinda and Karisma Kapoor’s “Main toh raste se ja raha tha, main toh bhelpuri kha raha tha” from Coolie No 1!
Batata Wada
After samosa and bhelpuri, we have a song on batata vada, literally meaning potato fritters. Batata vada is insanely popular in Maharashtra (just had it for breakfast and will be eating a vada pav in evening #justsaying) and we completely get Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor’s fixation over this tasty golden snack.
Ice Cream Khaungi
The art of professing love for food was not only prevalent in the 80s and 90s but continues to dominate the trend even today. Take for example this song “Ice cream khaungi Kashmir jaungi” sung by Himesh Reshammiya and YoYo Honey Singh for 2014 film, The Xpose. Its out-of-world lyrics are written by Shabbir Ahmed. This song gives some serious ice-cream goals.
Aaj Unse Milna Hai
“Aaj Unse Milna Hai” from Salman Khan-Sonam Kapoor’s 2015 film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is baap of all food songs in Bollywood. It does not reveal its delicacies in the title, because there are too many to fit in it. From gujiya to fafda, imarti to barfi, this song has it all.
These were some of the songs on my favourite food items. Yes, simply in love with samosa and ice cream. I am sure, you too would have a similar list including Madhuri’s “Chocolate, Lime Juice, Ice Cream, Toffeeya” from Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! or “Chicken KUK-DOO-KOO” from Salman’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
