Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday shared a video sharing his commitment to ensure a cleaner planet. The Prime Minister said living in harmony with nature will lead to a better future. "Our Planet and Environment is something we all cherish greatly. Today on World Environment Day, we reiterate our commitment to ensure a cleaner planet. Living in harmony with nature will lead to a better future", Modi tweeted.
President Ram Nath Kovind wished people of the nation on World Environment Day 2019. "On World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to a cleaner and sustainable planet. Living in harmony with nature is a part of the Indian ethos. India is committed to addressing climate change and bequeathing a greener, eco-friendly habitat to our children", the President tweeted.
To mark the occasion, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday launched the 'Selfie With Sapling' initiative to spread awareness about building a clean environment. World Environment Day is widely celebrated in over 100 countries across the globe on June 5. The special day is highly important to spread awareness about the environment. It’s a day to shake up everybody around you to wake up and prioritise the environment over other trivial issues.
Airborne pollutants are responsible for about one third of deaths from stroke, chronic respiratory disease, and lung cancer, as well as one quarter of deaths from heart attack. Air pollution is also fundamentally altering our climate, with profound impacts on the health of the planet.
