World Day Against Child Labour is observed on June 12 every year to bring awareness about how children below 14 years of age have been employed in different jobs around the world, debarring them on basic education and childhood. In 2002, The International Labour Organization (ILO) launched the World Day Against Child Labour to bring attention on the global extent of the issue and efforts needed to eliminate it. The theme for World Day Against Child Labour 2019 is 'Children shouldn’t work in fields, but on dreams!' Governments, civil society, employers and various organisations come together to highlight child labour and discuss measures through which it can be solved. On World Day Against Child Labour 2019, sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a sand art on Puri beach in Odisha to create awareness about the need to stop child labour. Child Labour? 13-Year-Old Boy Hired As Cleaner for UNICEF's Children's Day Event in Delhi's Thyagaraj Stadium.

He took social media sharing a picture of the sand art along with the caption, "On #WorldDayAgainstChildLabour, let us spread awareness to STOP #ChildLabour. One of My SandArt at Puri beach." Social media users also took to Twitter support the cause creating awareness of child labour and the cruelty meted out to children employed in different sectors.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by world leaders in 2015 includes a global commitment to end child labour. The target 8.7 of the Sustainable Development Goals calls on the global community to, "Take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking and secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labour, including recruitment and use of child soldiers, and by 2025 end child labour in all its forms."

Today, 152 million children continue to be doing child labour. While child labour is common throughout sectors, it is majorly seen in agriculture. In 2019, the International Labour Organization celebrates 100 years of advancing social justice and promotes decent work. This World Day Against Child Labour look at the advancements achieved over the last 100 years on tackling child labour. According to the Target 8.7 set by UN Sustainable Development Goal, it aims at ending child labour of all forms by 2025. The UN aims to achieve a minimum age in the industry.
