Vasant Panchami Rituals
According to the Hindu calendar, Vasant Panchami is observed during the Shukla Paksha Panchami of the Magha lunar month, which typically falls in late January or February. According to religious beliefs, Vasant Panchami is believed to be the birth anniversary of Goddess Saraswati. Hence the day is also known as Saraswati Jayanti. On this day, people worship Goddess Saraswati during Purvahna, which is the time before midday as per the Hindu division of the day.
Devotees adorn the Goddess with white clothes and flowers as the white colour is believed to be the favourite colour of Goddess Saraswati. People make sweets made of milk and white sesame, which are offered to the deity and distributed as Prasad. The festival of Vasant Panchami also marks the start of preparation for Holika and Holi, which take place forty days later.
