  1. Married Hindu women should wake up early in the morning, before sunrise, take a bath, and wear new clothes.
  2. Sit in a quiet, clean place and make a Sankalp (pledge) to observe the fast for the well-being and longevity of your husband.
  3. Place a picture or idol of Goddess Parvati for the puja and arrange all the necessary items for the puja.
  4. Now start the puja rituals and keep a fast for the whole day without consuming food or water.
  5. Offer water, flowers, and rice to the Goddess Parvati's idol or picture and apply kumkum on the idol and offer sweets.
  6. In the evening, gather the other fasting women and listen to the Karwa Chauth Katha, which narrates the story of Queen Veeravati and her devotion to her husband.
  7. When it is time for the moonrise, get ready for the moon sighting by arranging a thali (plate) with a diya, a karwa (pitcher), some sweets, and chawal (rice).
  8. When the moon rises, take the thali in your hands and see the moon through a sieve, offer arghya (water) to the moon and seek the blessings of the moon for your husband's long life.
  9. After seeing the moon, see your husband's face through the sieve. Now, your husband will offer you water and some food to break your fast.
  10. Take a sip of water and then eat something sweet. This marks the end of your fast.
