Hayagriva Jayanti 2023 will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 30. The Hayagriva Jayanti Muhurat will start at 4.25 pm on August 30 and last till 6.55 pm on the same day. The duration of the muhurat will be 2 Hours and 30 minutes. Hayagriva Jayanti Significance

Hayagriva is the horse-headed Avatar of Vishnu. Hayagriva Jayanti holds great significance as it is believed that Lord Hayagriva appeared on this day. It is said that devotees whom Lord Hayagriva blesses have clarity of thought in life in everything they do. The blessings of Hayagriva also include good financial fortune and affluence, peace of mind and prosperity, wisdom and knowledge. On the day of Hayagriva Jayanti, devotees also do a havan to impress Lord Hayagriva and his consort Goddess of Wealth, Lakshmi.

As per religious beliefs, the purpose of this incarnation was to slay a Danava, also named Hayagriva (A descendant of Kashyapa and Danu), who had the neck of a horse and the body of a human. Hence, this Avatar is the one that enlightens our lives with knowledge.

On the day of Hayagriva Jayanti, grand celebrations are observed at Lord Hayagriva Temple across India, especially in Hojo, Assam, and Hayagreeva Temple in Nanganallur, Chennai. Among the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu, Hargriv Avatar played a crucial role in developing the Vedas. Lord Hayagreeva is depicted as Lord Vishnu with a human body and horse head, wearing white attire and seated on a white lotus. As per traditions, the purpose of this Avatar was to retrieve the stolen Vedas from the demons. The day is observed as Upakarma Day by the Brahmin community.
