Vat Savitri Vrat is an important and auspicious Hindu festival observed by married women in India, especially in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Odisha. Vat Savitri Vrat Dos:

  • On Vat Savitri Vrat, begin the day with a bath to purify the body and mind and wear clean and traditional clothes, preferably in red, and yellow.
  • Observe a full fast from sunrise to moonrise. Some women may choose to have fruits and milk if a complete fast is not possible.
  • Worshipping the banyan tree, also known as Vat Vriksha, is mandatory on this day. Devotees should offer water, apply vermilion, and tie threads around the tree trunks.
  • Recite prayers and mantras dedicated to Savitri and the banyan tree.
  • Read or listen to the story of Savitri and Satyavan, which highlights Savitri's devotion and the significance of the vrat.
  • It is considered auspicious to give alms and donations to the needy on this day.

Vat Savitri Vrat Don’ts:

  • Don't let negative thoughts enter your mind, and try focusing on positivity.
  • Avoid consuming non-vegetarian food, alcohol, and food items that are not meant for fasting day.
  • Maintain the fast throughout the day and avoid breaking it before the moonrise unless necessary for health reasons.
