Vasudevan Dwadashi is an auspicious Hindu occasion that is dedicated to Lord Krishna, who is also known as Vasudeva. Vasudeva Dwadashi is celebrated on the Dwadashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadha which usually corresponds to June or July in the Gregorian calendar. Vasudeva Dwadashi 2024 falls on July 18. The Vasudeva Dwadashi is celebrated on the 12th day of the Shukla Paksha of the Month of Ashadha. The day falls right after the Devshayani Ekadashi and marks the beginning of Chatur Maas.

The day is primarily dedicated to the worship of Lord Krishna, acknowledging his divine attributes and seeking his blessings. On this day, Lord Krishna and Devi Lakshmi are worshipped by the devotees who perform rigorous penance for the four months of Ashadha, Shravan, Bhadrapada, and Ashwin. It is believed that by doing so, one can attain great happiness and peace.

Vasudeva Dwadashi Puja Rituals

1. Devotees should wake up early in the morning, take a bath and wear clean clothes.

2. They should take a sankalp of observing fast and seek blessings of Lord Krishna on the day of Vasudeva Dwadashi.

3. On this day, take an idol of Lord Krishna, light a diya with desi ghee, offer flowers, sweets, panchamrit, tulsi Patra

4. Devotees should recite Gajendra Moksha and Vishnu Sahastranaam and chant Lord Vishnu and Kunjbihari Aarti as it is considered very auspicious.

5. Devotees should also visit Lord Krishna temples, offer prayers to the Lord and seek his blessings for a happy and prosperous life.

6. It is believed that worshipping Lord Vishnu on this auspicious day takes away all kinds of troubles and obstacles that come in the way of life.

Vasudeva Dwadashi Significance

As per legends, it is said that the origin of Vasudev Dwadashi was found in the Varaha Purana. As per the Hindu mythology, Rishi Narad suggested Lord Krishna’s parents Vasudeva and Devaki, to observe a fast on this day and carry out all the rituals with great devotion, following which they were blessed with a child in the form of Krishna. And ever since, Vasudeva Dwadashi is celebrated to honour and worship Lord Krishna.
