New Delhi, March 17: On the joyous occasion of Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, Chaitra Sukladi and Cheti Chand, President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu extended their wishes to the nation. The President, in his message on the eve of Ugadi said, “On the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Sukladi, Ugadi, Gudi Padava, Cheti Chand, Navreh and Sajibu Cheiraoba, I extend my greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens.

“Celebrated in a wide variety of ways in different parts of our country, these festivals reflect our diversity and yet underline the unity of the nation. May these festivals strengthen the bonds of fraternity among people in various regions of our country”, Kovind added.

Meanwhile, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu in a message said that these festivals mark the beginning of traditional New Year and reflect the composite culture and rich heritage of our country. "I convey my warm greetings and good wishes to the people of our country on the joyous occasion of ‘Ugadi, Gudi Padava, Chaitra Sukladi and Cheti Chand’.  Ugadi is considered as an auspicious day as it marks the beginning of the new month ‘Chaitra’”, he said.

“All these festivals mark the beginning of traditional New Year and reflect the composite culture and rich heritage of our country.   May these festivals bring prosperity and happiness in our lives”, he added.

On the eve of Ugadi, leaders of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh extended their wishes to the nation. Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister K Palaniswami also extended their greetings to the nation. “On the happy occasion of Ugadi, I extend my hearty greetings and best wishes to the Telugu and Kannada speaking people of the State. While rejoicing in the festivities of Ugadi and upholding our glorious traditions and customs, let us all resolve to work together to usher in progress and development”, Purohit said.

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K. Palaniswami said that that “Telugu and Kannada speaking people in Tamil Nadu have been mingling as siblings for a long period with the people of the State and it is a matter of pride”.
