Bindi
The woman wears a big bindi between her eyebrows and prefers to design it with tiny white bindis, sometime in alternate colours for adorning the upper ends of her brows. The round bindi is a symbol of married life which also has religious implications.
Sindoor
Sindoor or vermillion is a red-coloured powder which is hugely significant among the Hindus in India. It completes the look of a married woman which is akin to the ring in western countries. The colour red is said to denote marriage and the well-being of the husband.
Maang Tikka
Usually made out of gold and precious gems, a maang tikka is worn in the central hair parting which extends till forehead. The ornament increases the charm of a married woman during the festival.
Kajal
Anjana or Kohl or Kajal, is applied on the edges of the eyelids that make the eyes look attractive. Earlier, women used to apply kajal by collecting the soot of an earthen lamp. However, the modern married woman uses intense black eyeliner to achieve that kohl look.
Nath
