He hailed from a Marathi Brahmin family in Khed, Pune. He was born on August 24, 1908. He witnessed the oppressive British rule firsthand, which ignited a lot of anger and hatred for the British in him. Lokmanya Tilak’s revolutionary ideals majorly inspired him. This led to his joining the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army. His patriotism and dedication towards the country led to his participating in the assassination of a British Raj Police officer named John Saunders. Shivaram Rajguru lost his father when he was only six years old. His brother took care of him and his mother. Despite several hardships, Shivaram excelled at his studies. As he had grown up witnessing the several atrocities committed by the British, he grew up with anti-British and nationalist ideals and sentiments. Shivaram grew up to become a brave Indian revolutionary. As an act of revenge for the brutal killing of Lala Lajpat Rai, another renowned Indian freedom fighter, Shivaram, along with Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev Thapar, assassinated British Raj Police officer, John Saunders. The British government saw this act as a challenge to their authority and took very harsh action against them.
