The 30-day Islamic holy month of Ramzan or Ramadan began on May 17. Muslims across the world fast from day till dawn following the religious traditions. This year the fasting hours are the longest in the past three decades. Hence, the fasting time-period each day is bound to increase as sunsets are delayed due to the onset of summer.

In the Indian subcontinent, large parts where people could sight the crescent moon on 29th Sha'aban began their fasting on May 17, while those who could not sight it began their fasting from May 18.  Know the updated Sehri & Iftar schedule for May 24 below.

The Sehri timings will end at 3:55 am for those in Delhi. Muslims observing fasting should take their meal for the day before this time. The fast can be broken at dusk, the ritual which is referred to as Iftari which begins from 7:10 pm. For Muslims in Mumbai observing the fast, Sehri ends at 4:40 am and Iftar starts at 7:09 pm. In Srinagar, Sehri ends at 3:44 am and Iftar starts at 7:32 pm. In Bhopal, Sehri ends at 4:11 am and Iftar starts at 6:59 pm.

For those living in other cities of the country including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, the auspicious timings can be checked here.

Believers refrain from drinking alcohol, sexual activities and immoral speech. Those who are not able to participate in fasting do charity and serve the poor.

Muslims are encouraged to read the Quran completely in this month. They also attend special evening prayers called Taraveeh. Fasting during the month of Ramzan is believed to be among the five pillars of Islamic faith.
