Sawan Mahina and Sawan Somwar Significance

The month of Sawan is considered very auspicious in the Hindu community. Several important Hindu festivals and events occur during Sawan, including Raksha Bandhan, Hariyali Teej, and Nag Panchami. Each of these festivals has its own unique customs and rituals.

According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Lord Shiva saved the world by consuming the poison that emerged from the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan). This act turned his throat blue, earning him the name Neelkanth.  Many devotees observe fasts during Sawan, especially on Mondays, known as Sawan Somvar. Sawan or Shravan is considered the holiest month to worship Lord Shiva.
