Lord Ganesha is always respected with great devotion by the Hindus. Other than the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, there are several other festive days throughout the year on which people pay their respects to the Lord of wisdom. Every month, Sankashti Chaturthi is an auspicious festival, observed to worship Lord Ganesha. It is the day of Lord Ganesha and marked on the Chaturthi Tithi that falls after the full moon day. So Sankashti Chaturthi in the month of July will be marked on July 20, 2019. We will tell you the timings and puja vidhi of this auspicious day which worships the Gajaanana Ganapati form of Lord Ganesha.

Since Sankashti Chaturthi falls every month it is also referred to as Masik Sankashti Chaturthi. And for each Hindu calendar month, a particular form of Lord Ganesha is worshipped.  Ganesha is worshipped with a different name and peeta (seat). So the one in the month of June worships Gajaanana Ganapati and Vishnu Peeta. Devotees observe a strict fast for the day and perform a puja before breaking their fast. There is a specific Vrat Katha associated with each of the months.

Puja Vidhi

Sankashti Chaturthi Puja involves chanting all the Puranik Mantras. People get up early, take bath, wear clean clothes and also clean the idol of Ganpati Bappa. The puja begins with the invocation of Lord Ganesha. Flowers are offered to the Ganesh idol. Then scented water is placed while chanting the mantra. After the idol is cleaned with water, it is also offered a bath with Panchamrit. Gandha is put on the idol and more prayers are said. Prasad is offered to the Lord and people seek blessings from the Lord.

Lord Ganesha is called the Vighnaharta, the remover of obstacles so before starting any new venture, people pray to him and seek blessings. The auspicious day of Sankashti Chaturthi is observed in Western and Southern India. Devotees also go to Lord Ganpati temple and take his blessings.
