The Ramzan chand has not been sighted in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana. The moon sighting committees of neighbouring states are expected to issue an announcement shortly.

The Ulema-e-Deccan, one of the highest Muslim decision-making body in South India, issued a statement post namaz-e-maghrib claiming that the moon has not been sighted. The first roza would be observed from Tuesday in Hyderabad. Stay tuned for updates from other parts of India.

New Delhi, May 5: Muslims in India, along with other parts of South, Central and Southeast Asia, will attempt to sight the Ramadan moon today. Hilal committees in all Indian states have been tasked to lookout for the crescent. If the moon is sighted today, Ramzan 2019 fasts will begin tomorrow, May 6. The Hilal committees in all state capitals would convene post namaz-e-asr or pre-sunset prayers, and will be in regular touch with their officials on field to keep a close watch on the skies. An announcement on crescent sighting is expected shortly after sunset.
Among all crescent sighting teams, the Hilal committees in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Patna and Kolkata hold most influence over the decision to be finalised. A keen watch is also maintained on the announcement to be made by Delhi Jama Masjid Shahi Imam.
Experts are of the view that the sighting of moon is doubtful in subcontinent region today, as the crescent was unseen yesterday in the world's western hemisphere. As seen in the past several years, the lunar calendar in Asia region runs a day behind the Gulf, West and Europe.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) on Saturday announced that Ramadan would be observed by them from Monday. "Therefore, it is most likely that the date of observance in India and neighbouring region will be May 7," said a Mumbai-based crescent expert Mohammed Uzair.
