During the Ramadan period, fasting is intended to help teach Muslims self-discipline, self-restraint and generosity. The date for the beginning of the holiest month depends on a moon sighting at the culmination of the ongoing Shaban month. During this holy month, Muslims wake up early morning for the pre-dawn Sehri meal renouncing food and water during the day before breaking their fasts in the evening.
