Since the crescent moon was not sighted in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other parts of the Middle East on Tuesday, the region will begin Ramadan from Thursday by default. Islamic scholars in the Indian subcontinent doubt whether the crescent would be spotted in India today.

As per the precedent set over the past several decades, the crescent moon is sighted in the Indian subcontinent, along with other parts of South Asia, a day after it gets spotted in the Middle East.
