Ramzan 2018 Moon Sighted in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Puducherry & Kerala; Fasting to Begin From Tomorrow
In India, the moon sighting in many parts of India may delay due to clouds and thunderstorm in the northern states including West Bengal, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and few regions in Madhya Pradesh.
New Delhi, May 16: The Ramzan fasts would be observed in Telangana, Puducherry, Kerala and Tamil Nadu from Thursday, as the moon was sighted in the region today. According to the Office of Chief Kazi of Government of Tamil Nadu, the moon has been sighted. Reports claimed the crescent was also observed in neighbouring Kerala and Puducherry.

Delhi’s Jama Masjid Imam is also expected to issue an announcement on Ramadan moon sighting post the namaz of Maghrib (evening prayers). Details by Islamic scholars tell us that the possibility of the moon being sighted in the subcontinent is unlikely, as the crescent could not be spotted in Saudi Arabia and other Middle East nations on Tuesday.
As the lunar calendar in the Middle East is running a day ahead of the eastern part of the world, the region witnesses Ramdan’s crescent moon a day before the Indian subcontinent and other parts of South and South-East Asia.
Ramadan is one of the five “pillars” of Islam and is a holy month for the world’s nearly 1.5 billion Muslims. During Ramzan, Muslims practise the ritual of dawn-to-dusk fasting and prayers. Tradition holds that it was during Ramadan that the Prophet Mohammed started receiving revelations of the Muslim holy book, the Koran.
