Crescent has not been sighted in any part of the world. The western hemisphere, including the Gulf, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Americas will begin Ramadan fasts from Monday, May 6. The dates in eastern hemisphere, including Muslim populated regions of Asia, will either begin Ramadan on Monday or Tuesday, depending on the sighting of crescent moon tomorrow.

Hilal crescent observers claim that the position of earth today makes moon sighting near impossible in any part of the globe. Ramadan fasts are most likely to begin from May 6 in the western hemisphere.

The Hilal Committees, charged with the sighting of moon on final day of lunar calendar month, will be on lookout today for the Ramadan crescent. Parts of the world where the moon will be sighted this evening will embrace the holy month of Ramadan, also referred to as Ramazan in the Indian subcontinent. If the Hilal Committee testifies or receives  testimony from citizens who have sighted the moon, the Holy Ramadan month would commence and fasts will begin from tomorrow, May 5. Believing Muslims are duty bound to abstain from food and water between dawn to dusk throughout the next 29 or 30 days.

A major part of the Western world, along with the Gulf and Africa, will have their eyes set on the announcement to made between Maghrib and Isha by the Masjid al-Haram or the grand mosque in Mecca. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is expected to issue an official announcement later in the evening. Subsequently, declarations would also be issued by neighbouring regions of Yemen, Oman, Qatar, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In Europe, Muslims will keep a watch on the announcement to be made by the Birmingham Mosque in UK. Moon sighting would also be attempted in France, Belgium, Wales, as well as in parts of eastern Europe including Germany.

Taraweeh Namaz From Tonight?

Sunni Muslims across the world pray tarawih or the recitation of Quran in form of namaz throughout the nights of Ramadan. The tarawih prayers would be held immediately following the Isha namaz if the moon is sighted today. If not, the special prayers would begin from tomorrow night in most parts of the world.

In India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia and other some other parts of Asia, the tarawih prayers would be either begin from tomorrow or from Monday night. The reason being that the Ramzan crescent would be visible in that part of the world either on Sunday or on Monday evening.
