Hyderabad, May 6: Ramadan, also known as Ramazan, is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. According to Islamic belief, the festival is observed by Muslims across the globe as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad. The annual observance is considered as one of the 'Five Pillars' of Islam and hence is an auspicious time for Muslims across the globe. The Islamic holy month of Ramadan or Ramzan will begin either on Sunday or Monday in India after the moon is sighted in New Delhi and Lucknow. If the moon is sighted on Sunday, i.e. on May 5, the holy month of Ramadan-ul- Kareem will commence from May 6. This means, the first roza or fast in that case will be observed on Monday, May 6.
