Ramadan 2019 Date in India: When is Ramzan Moon Sighting?

Under the Islamic calendar, a new month begins upon the sighting of a crescent moon on the 29th day of the ongoing month. If the moon is not sighted, the month completes 30 days and a new month begins the next day. In India, 29th Shaban will be on May 5 (Sunday). If the moon is sighted, Ramadan will begin from May 6 (Monday). If the moon remains invisible, the fasting month will begin from May 7 (Tuesday).

During Ramadan, Muslims wake up early morning for the pre-dawn Sehri meal and skip food and water during the day before breaking fast in the evening after sunset. The evening meals are known as Iftar.

If Ramadan begins from May 6 and the moon is sighted on 29th of Ramadan, then Eid festival will be celebrated on June 4. If Ramadan begins on May 6 and the fasting month completes 30 days, then Eid will be celebrated on June 5. Eid after the completion of Ramadan is the first among the two major festivals celebrated by the Muslim population across the globe -- the other being Eid al-Adha.
