One of the most prominent freedom struggles that India faced was the Kakori train robbery. Bismil executed a meticulous plan for looting the government treasury carried in a train at Kakori near Lucknow. He, along with his co-conspirators, were caught in this predicament and were tried for the same. Bismil was hanged on 19 December 1927 at Gorakhpur Jail.
