Raksha Bandhan 2019: Qamar Mohsin Shaikh, PM Narendra Modi's Pakistan-Origin Rakhi Sister, To Tie Him Sacred Thread Today
Apart from Qamar, nearly 1,00 widows from Vrindavan would be sending rakhi for the Prime Minister through Sulabh International, a non-governmental organisation. Five of them would be brought to the PM's Delhi-based residence to tie the sacred threat on his wrist.
New Delhi, August 15: Pakistan-origin woman Qamar Mohsin Shaikh, a rakhi sister of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for over the last 30 years, will tie him the sacred threat today as well on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan 2019. Despite his tight schedule, the PM has allocated time to meet Qamar on the auspicious day.
"I get the opportunity to tie rakhi to elder brother once every year, I'm happy. I pray that the next 5 years go so well for him that the whole world recognizes the positive decisions he made. Qamar had met Modi in Delhi over three decades ago, when she visited the city along with her husband who worked as a painter. "His nature is very nice. He would often meet me and ask 'Kaisi ho behan," she was quoted as saying.
Notably, Qamar stayed in Pakistan till her marriage. After she got wedded to an Indian, she settled in Delhi. Modi, who worked as an RSS pracharak those days, maintained close ties with the family.
"It was the auspicious day of 'Raksha Bandhan' and when I approached him with a rakhi and he gladly accepted it," Qamar remembers, recalling her first interaction with Modi.
