Thane, September 3: The festival of Dahi Handi took place with great zeal and enthusiasm in various spots across Mumbai and Thane. Among the various events organised on a great scale, the Pro Govinda 2018 was held for the first time in the city. The Pro Govinda was held at Vartaknagar organised byLA Pratap Sarnaike's 'Sanskriti Pratishthan' in Thane. Ashtavinayak Govinda Pathak from Wadala won the first spot in the Dahi Handi competition. Baal Veer group from Chembur took the 2nd spot, followed by Kokan Nagar at number 3. Shiv Shahi Govinda Pathak from Borivali took the 4th prize and were the last ones to perform at this event.

A lot of reputed Govinda groups took part in this competition. The famous Jai Jawan group had made their presence felt with 9-layered human pyramid formation. However, in the final performance, they were not successful to make do the same formation. A lot of people pinned their hopes on the group however, they were  Shiv Shahi Group put up a brilliant showcase of 8-layered human pyramid towards the end of this event. Dahi Handi 2018: A Govinda Injured During Janmashtami Celebration Dies at Sion Hospital.

Bal Veer group from Chembur also won the award for the best costume along with being the second runner-up for the event. About 30 groups had participated in the event out of which 15 had qualified to compete for the top 4 titles. Pratap Sarnaik spoke about the success of this event. He said, "A lot of groups came here and showed their best skills and managed to make 8-layered human pyramids. The discipline shown by some of the group and their skills were commendable. I salute all the Govinda mandals who came here and displayed their best skills."
