Pitru Paksha Significance and Rituals
Pitru Paksha is an important period observed by Hindus to honour their ancestors. During Pitru Paksha, Hindus perform rituals called Shradh to pay respect to their deceased ancestors. These rituals are believed to ensure the peace and well-being of the departed souls. The shradh rituals involve offering food, water, and prayers, and are usually performed by the eldest son or male member of the family. The last day of Pitru Paksha is known as Sarvapitri Amavasya or Mahalaya Amavasya. Mahalaya amavasya is the most significant day of Pitru Paksha.
As per religious beliefs, by performing these rituals, the ancestors are happy and bless the living descendants with prosperity, health, and success. Many people also perform charitable acts and donate to the poor during this period, which is considered highly auspicious.
