New Delhi, August 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday wished for strength to the people of Kerala as he greeted the nation on the occasion of Onam. In his Onam wishes on Twitter, PM Modi wrote that the people of India were standing shoulder to shoulder with the people of Kerala and praying for them.

"May this Onam give further strength to the people of Kerala to overcome the adversities they have been facing for the past few days. The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with Kerala and prays for the happiness as well as prosperity of its citizens," Modi tweeted.

Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah also tweeted, "On the auspicious occasion of Onam, we pray to the almighty that Kerala gets back on its feet soonest."

Meanwhile, Congress President Rahul Gandhi urged people to "pledge to put aside our differences, stand united together and focus on the task of rebuilding Kerala." "This is a difficult time for the people of Kerala. In relief camps & homes across the state, people are grieving for their loved ones. On this Onam let us pledge to put aside our differences, stand united together and focus on the task of rebuilding Kerala," he tweeted.

The Kerala government had called off the Onam festivities this year in the wake of floods that ravaged the state last week. The devastating floods left over 370 people dead while lakhs of people have been displaced.
