On Mother's Day 2018 Look at the 10 Typical Things Desi Moms Say Which Are Irritating Yet Lovable
If one day our mothers decide to not use these typical phrases or taunts with us, we would think she is unwell.
Our mother is a superwoman, and their most favourite superpower is taunts! The way they use sarcasm while talking to us is something we cannot avoid and even if we try to counter it, they'll come up with something better. While mothers worldwide are an epitome of love and care, Indian moms add their typical usages which make them special. Well, that is what makes our moms so awesome. A day to appreciate our mom, Mother's day is coming. Mother's day 2018 will be celebrated on May 13, Sunday.
We as a generation are so used to these phrases that we kind of know we would get to hear them the next time as well. Some of them would be totally unrelated and sound ridiculous for those moments but maybe it gives our mother the satisfaction of having taunted us.
On Mother's Day let us look at the phrases which Desi Moms keep using commonly
- This is not a home, this is your dharamshala
Most of us working around the clock, are literally caught up whole day. So we happen to reach home late, just have our food and head to our bedroom. Our mommies want to spend some time with us, but then they remind us how we are treating the house like a hostel. We cannot deny what she says is right though.
- Have you eaten food?
Mothers have been inquiring about our food, long before it turned into a 'couple' joke. Yes, our mother may not call us Shona before asking but she asks with same care. It is very important for her to know if you are eating your tiffin. And on days if you take some remaining food back home, you have the next patent dialogue ready! - You don't like only home-made food. Go eat more outside!
Well, something ordered from outside will always taste a little better than what you've got (unless your mom is super awesome cook). And this one day you choose to eat outside instead of returning home dinner, mothers have this suggestion of go ahead, go ahead and eat outside only.
- When I was your age...
This is every mother's technique to tell their child what they've been doing is absolutely wrong and unacceptable. Mothers like to go back to such throwbacks and comparing the two generations. This only makes her comment ridiculous but 'humare zamane mein na...' is thrown at us from time to time. Especially at girls, who might come home late.
- Which guy/girl will marry you if you behave like this?
A child's marriage is almost like the sole priority of a mother more so when you are in your 20s. Whatever you do will have an aftermath on finding you a suitable match. If you cannot cook, mother will be the last one to have mercy on you.
- Who are you smiling at while you are talking on the phone?
Our generation is probably more amused by scrolling through funny memes than chatting with someone. But who will explain to Mother India? Caught smiling and she has her eyes on you. She begins questioning you about the guy on the other side. Because clearly you cannot smile while chatting to a girl, if at all.
- Papa se pucho (Ask your father)
Asking for a permission from home is a task in most of the households. Ask your mother something and she directs you to ask your father, often when she doesn't want to say a 'Yes.' And if your father agrees, she is still going to find it problematic. God save you child if your father says, 'Go ask your mother.'
- Nice clothes, keep roaming around like a beggar
Lucky would be those whose mothers give them compliments in one go! Desi moms are not so used to the new age fashion trends. If you happen to wear a tattered yet stylish outfit, you will be very proudly compared to a beggar. They add an element of sarcasm by calling it nice first and then giving the special comment, an unpleasant one.
- Jala do woh phone (Burn down that phone)
While a mobile phone may have been a device of convenience, it is the first thing probably your mother would like to happily destroy. We are obsessed with our phones no doubt but moms go extreme with 'burn that thing down' suggestions. Miss a few calls from her while you are in a meeting or really busy, this is the primary thing uttered when we call her back. It can be used anytime as well, the situation may be anything but mobile phone is the source of all problems.
- You will understand when you become a mother
What is a typical Desi mother if she is not being emotional at your tantrums? Yes, she maybe right when she says this patent dialogue that we will not realise the care unless we have our own child to fend. But this taunt will come at us when you are least expecting it.
If one day our mothers decide to not use these typical phrases or taunts with us, we would think she is unwell. Because no matter how much we crib about it, we definitely love it. After all, what is a little motherly care without the added dash of sarcasm. Wish all Desi moms a very Happy Mother's Day.
