The 11th month of the year is here. Yes, November has arrived and in about 60 days’ time we will be welcoming the New Year. And that’s how another year passed by swiftly. But before we are gripped by the Christmas and New Year’s Eve, it’s time to look at what festivals and holidays does November has in store for us. We are warning you in advance, it is definitely not festival heavy like October. Nevertheless, if last month was full of big celebrations such as Durga Puja, Dussehra, Diwali and Halloween, November witnesses celebrations like Chhath Puja, like Milad un-Nabi, Guru Nanak Gurpurab, Children’s Day and more. There are several health-related days and international observances that are both important and interesting. Let us look at the November 2019 calendar in detail, the important days and events to commemorate, along with religious fasts, festivals, birth and death anniversaries.
Chhath Puja, the biggest festival of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, will be celebrated on November 2 and 3. Though the four-day Hindu festival begins from October 31 with an important ritual called Nahay Khay. It is followed by Kharna on November 1, Sandhya Arghya on November 2 and Usha Arghya on November 3. Devotees mostly women pray to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya in this festival. The first week, in fact, the first day of the month is quite important for several Indian states. November 1 marks the formation day of states such as Karnataka, Kerala, Haryana and more.
The second week of the month will see major festival for the Muslim and Sikh communities. Eid Milad un-Nabi (Mawlid or Mawlid al-Nabi al-Sharif) is celebrated to observe the birthday of Islamic prophet Muhammad. It will be observed on November 10. Guru Nanak Gurpurab, also known as Guru Nanak's Prakash Utsav and Guru Nanak Jayanti, celebrates the birth of the first Sikh Guru. It will be celebrated on November 12. On November 14, Children’s Day in India will be celebrated in the honour of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru’s birth anniversary. The day is also celebrated as Nehru Jayanti. As informed earlier, the month is not chock-a-block with big festivals, and on that note, let’s look at the list.
