The first celebrations of Take Your Dog To Work Day began in the year 1996. The unofficial holiday was created by Pet Sitters International as a way to encourage dog adoption and also highlight how having a pet brings happiness in the lives of people. People at Pet Sitters International realised that a lot of people left their pets at home, so to help them find good homes with love and respect them, this fun celebration was initiated. Since 2014, a number of businesses across the UK allowed dogs at the workplace. This day is celebrated in Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Israel.
Other than promoting more pet and human interaction, this day also has certain programmes which raise funds and are given to charities. It also promotes adoption of dogs from local shelters, rescue groups and societies. Getting a dog sure seems an interesting idea and we can imagine the fun it would be to have a pooch running through the cubicles.
