National Samosa Week in UK: Know What the Three day Event is All About
The event will have a range of activities including samosa-eating competitions, samosa shops and the likes. There will also be awards for the tastiest samosas!
A first of its kind event called the National Samosa Week will take place in UK next month from April 9 to April 13. There will be samosa stalls and some competitions among the participants in here. The aim of this 3-day event is gathering money for charity to help the families of police officers. The popular snack from India has been loved by everyone across the Indian borders, so much so that there is a festival happening to unite people!
The event is the brainchild of Romail Gulzar, from Leicester who believes that the snack can get people together for a cause. “It is a tea time snack in the subcontinent but it can be so much more than that. We want to use this week to draw attention to the rich culture and food heritage of South Asia,” he said to media reports. The cities of Birmingham, Manchester, Coventry, Nottinghamshire and Radlett will be participating in this event. The event will have a range of activities including samosa-eating competitions, samosa shops and the likes. There will also be awards for the tastiest samosas!
The proceeds from the sales will be forwarded to two causes- mental health charity LAMP and Care of Police Survivors (COPS) — dedicated to helping the families of police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. “We want to encourage people all over the U.K. to buy or make their own samosas this week and sell them at work and school to raise funds for their local community or charities. If you’re feeling competitive, you could offer a prize for the best samosa, we think this could be the start of something really popular,” said Gulzar. He is hoping that the response will be enough to turn it into an annual event. There will be many more varieties of samosa that will be seen in the stalls here. So there could be meat fillings to vegan samosa options here.
We sure like the idea and something like this will even work in our country given how the dish became popular in the homeland and has traversed abroad. Doesn't it sound exciting to have three days dedicated to the triangular filling snack?
