National Safety Day 2021: Date and Significance of The Day Commemorating The Foundation of the National Safety Council

March 4 is observed as the National Safety Day, to focus on the importance of reduction in the rate of industrial accidents. Also, it focuses on the areas that any safety legislation has not yet covered. The campaign urges organisations to participate in developing activities as per their legal safety requirements.

National Safety Day is observed on March 4 every year. One-week campaigns are organised to focus on safety measures to reduce the chances of accidents and mishaps in the Industrial sector. National Safety Day focuses on the importance of reduction in the rate of industrial accidents. Also, it focuses on the areas that any safety legislation has not yet covered. The campaign urges organisations to participate in developing activities as per their legal safety requirements.

The Ministry of Labour established the National Safety Council of India on March 4, 1966, to develop the movement focusing on Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) at the national level. NSC is an autonomous body. NSC decided to celebrate this Day as National Safety Day. Activities focusing on the council's objectives are performed on this day. Activities such as specialised training courses, conferences, seminars, and workshops, conducting consultancy studies like safety audits, hazard evaluation, risk assessment etc., are organised on this day.

National Safety Council's vision is to Serve Society by creating a preventive culture, scientific mindset and organised approach to Safety Health Environment issues. NSC believes that these issues are an essential humanitarian concern.

National Safety Day activities at the National Level Seminars, include discussions, public functions, and debates focusing on safety measures. Media coverage is also organised on TV news channels, All India Radio stations and the national/regional press of the safety-related activities.

Several functions and events are organised at the State Level, focusing on safety measures in the state. National Safety Council displays banners on various locations in the state, and it's capital, marking the importance of National Safety Day. Enterprise Level Safety Pledges are designed, exhibitions, training programmes, workshops, seminars, etc. are held on this Day. Emergency drills, are organised. Award functions are held, eminent guest speakers are invited, community awareness programmes are also organised on the National Safety Day by the National Safety Council's foundation to raise awareness about safety measures.

It is said that when safety is neglected, workplace becomes a hazard. Therefore, to keep Industrial areas and factory workplace safe, the National Safety Council commemorates this Day as National Safety Day.
