The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways will today introduce 30th National Road Safety Week. A number of initiatives have been planned to generate awareness about safe road usage among people. Commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari will flag off the car rally.
The rally will go through places historically associated with Gandhi, in India, Bangladesh and Myanmar. It will conclude on February 24th in Myanmar covering a total distance of 7,250 km. Some of the places in India where the motor rally will pass through include Sabarmati, Porbandar, Dandi, Yerwada, Sewagram, Jabalpur, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, ChauriChaura, Champaran, Shantiniketan and Kolkata. The Society of Indian Automobile Industry will also declare 2019 as the Year of Road Safety promoting safety on Indian roads. To create about safe road usage, AmartraChitra Katha will release a set of comic books. Various other events will also be held on the topic to raise awareness among youth.
Retro Reflective Stickers on Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha will be launched on the occasion. Seminars and workshops on Emerging Trends in Safety, Road Safety Engineering, Motor Vehicle Insurance, Emergency care (Protection of Good Samaritan & First Responder Training), Role of Youth, and Industry/ Corporate Conclave on Role of Corporate in Road Safety will be held. At IDTR in Sarai Kale Khan, School Bus Driver Refresher Training session will be held where bus drivers from private schools will be given training on road safety.
